The first crop...

Today I dug up my potatoes! This is the first time I have attempted to grow them and I was not optimistic.... but then I started digging and joy upon joy I discovered proper potatoes down in the dirt, like real ones from a shop.. woo.

Ooh, so exciting - nothing like digging up or harvesting one's own veggies! I stuck a sweet potato in the ground a while back - no real intention involved, but it was so cool when I realised there were loads of sweet tatties waiting to be harvested!

I bet they were even more proper than the ones in the shop. well done Badger.

Yay! The chips are on you! Are you old enough to remember that crisps advert with the monks saying "mud mud mud mud mud. It's a potato!" Or did you have to be there?

Thank you all for your comments!

I can confirm that the Badger potatoes were indeed as good as the shop ones, which, in Badger terms, is high praise indeed. ("It looks like it came out of a packet" is what Badger says when Stray has spent hours in the kitchen on some marvelous home-made creation.)

We are now looking forward to tomatoes and courgettes, although the Dales' summer being what it is (distinctly lacking in sunshine) we fear that neither will bother to put any effort into ripening enough to be eaten.
