Disraeli Avenue Blog Widget - how to add it to your blog

Cas is a superstar. The e-book of Disraeli Avenue is now available to download, and she's already raised a bucket of money for the fantastic charity One-in-four who help adults who have been sexually abused as children.  They're a weeeeeny organisation who run on a shoe string budget, so every penny raised makes a difference.

We've knocked out a blog widget based on the behind-closed-doors theme of Disraeli Avenue, and we hope you'll join in by reading and sharing some secrets, and maybe even putting the Disraeli Avenue Secrets widget on to your own blog.

If you decide to do that, here are the instructions:

For blogger - there are 2 styles of templates, old style and new style.  To add the widget to a non-blogger template, follow the old style instructions.

If you don't know what kind of template you have then you probably have new style!

To add the widget to a new style blog template:

Log in to your blog.  Go to "Layout".  Choose "Page Elements".  Choose to "Add a page element" in your side bar.  Choose "HTML / Javascript" as the type of element.  Give your new element a title, and into the content area paste exactly the green code below (only the green stuff).  You can write text above and below it if you like, but the whole of the green stuff must be in there, intact.

To add the widget to an old style blog template:

Go to your template.  Insert the green code in the area which defines your sidebar. Feel free to email if you have problems!

Dear Stray

I'm having a little bit of trouble with the lovely blog widget for Disraeli Avenue. Blogger has very kindly allowed me to put it in a post - which is lovely. But I really want to put it in my side bar so that it stays there. Blogger is refusing to do this despite the fact that I've followed your instructions and Caroline's instructions to the letter. It looks like it's trying to do it and then gives up. I should add that I often have issues with blogger, a combination of blogger/aol/not having broadband possibly. Any suggestions for anything else I could try would be gratefully received. Thanks.

Hello helenmh, I have taken a squiz at your blog code and you have a new style template ...

I suspect the problem is AOL (or AOHell as us developers call them). Blogger doesn't strictly support the AOL browser ... and even in safari on Mac I've sometimes had trouble with it.

One option, if you're feeling brave, is to add me to your blog editors just for a few minutes. I promise not to get up to any mischief! Then you could take me off again once I've put it up? Or you could get Cas to do the same? You'd need to add one of us and give us permission to do stuff to the template. We'd be very careful!

Bobo - ta for the strokes :)

Cas - I love you toooooo!

Stray - I would be extremely happy to let you fiddle with my template. How do I add you to my blog editors though? Sorry, bit of a techno moron I'm afraid x

helenmh I can email you the html off of my blog if you'd like, or you can email me! Woohoo!
